Mostly Mozart by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in Bath

The internationally renowned and critically acclaimed ‘Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’ will be performing a special concert entitled “Mostly Mozart” at Bath Abbey in the spa city of Bath on Thursday 15th September at 7.30pm.

“La Finta Giardiniera” is the overture to one of Mozart’s lesser known operas. It was composed when Mozart was just mere 18 years old in 1775. In this piece the hallmarks of his emerging genius are already apparent. Despite a welcomed reception after just three performances it was to disappear from the mainstream repertoire, until the 1970’s when the complete opera score was rediscovered.

It was composed at a point of his life that is somewhat surrounded in mystery, in 1774. Mozart’s Symphony No.29 is unusual in its opening when compared to his other symphonies, in that it begins relatively gently. A masterpiece of his youth, it has been described as “the richest and most dramatic piece Mozart had written up to this time”. Entry price starts from £8 and there is a minimum age of 4 years old.
