Many people visit Somerset’s premier city to enjoy relaxing spa breaks in Bath; after all, it’s the UK’s number one spa city. But did you know the city of Bath is a mecca for all Jane Austen fans from around the world.
Jane Austen is one of Bath’s most famous residents, and she set two of her later novels, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey, in the city, as well as using it for inspiration by featuring notes on social life and music recitals of the time.
The annual Jane Austen Festival takes place in the city during September 14 – 22, a nine day extravaganza dedicated to the world of Ms Austen and her characters. This year’s festival is promising to be the busiest ever, with more than sixty events taking place. There will be daytime and evening concerts and theatricals, guided walks, talks, workshops, dances and the Regency Costumed Masked Ball in Bath’s Pump Room, plus the Grand Regency Costumed Promenade on Saturday 15.
For more information or to buy tickets or participate in any of the events, contact the Jane Austen Centre on: 01225 443000
