It’s that time again for the annual ‘Bath Bachfest’, a two day event in celebration of the works by celebrated German composer, Johann Sebastian Bach.
This year’s Bath Bachfest sees three special concerts spread over two days, featuring a wealth of talented classical musicians playing in the spa city at three prestigious venues. Friday the 24th February at 7.30pm sees Alina Ibragimova – the talented winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards 2011 – showcasing her Baroque violin skill. The programme will include two of Bach’s popular Violin Concertos, plus some works by Vivaldi and Biber, all being performed the Assembly Rooms.
Saturday the 25th will see acclaimed chamber quartet ‘Florilegium’ performing a two hour daytime concert which will start at 11am at the Guildhall venue in Bath city centre. This is an all-Bach programme and will include many favourites.
The Saturday evening concert starts at 7.30 at the beautiful Bath Abbey and will see the highly acclaimed Retrospect Ensemble making their debut at the Bath Bachfest. The Retrospect Ensemble offers a combination of choir and orchestra, and is directed by Matthew Halls. There will be four celebrated soloists, including the counter-tenor Christopher Ainslie, who will join the choir and orchestra for the performance, making this an extra special occasion.
